George Mason University hosts forum for communication students

George Mason University’s Department of Communication will host a forum for students to learn about content marketing from well-respected professionals around the world.

Owner of Ruszkowski& Associates, LLC, Tara Ruszkowski, is also a member of the Insight committee, which is a  volunteer advisory board of experienced leaders in professional communication. This group will sponsor this event to provide Mason students access to and advice by leading professionals in the communication field.

This open forum will focus on the benefits of content marketing.

Content marketing has three major components. The first is relevant content to attract its audience on its own merits. The second is that it has to have an emotional storytelling component and the third is a connection to the brand.

“The most important thing about marketing yourself and getting a job is to be good listeners, look for opportunity and network, network, network,” said Ruszkowski. “The most important part of networking is listening and taking notes on what you remember so you can follow up on details.”

She also mentioned that it is important to remember personal comments. The more personal students come across, the better impression they will make, she said.

This forum will consist of three parts: keynote speaker, panel and speed mentoring. To be prepared, Ruszkowski said students should bring pens, something to take notes on and personal business cards. She said to dress well and not to wear jeans.

“The goal of this forum is to make sure you’ll have sophistication on a topic that’s popular right now and thoughtfulness on a spectrum of issues around content marketing,” she said.
